2022 is the year that should have made it clear to everyone that things need to change. Business as usual is over.
Whether it's politicians representing corporations in the best and just themselves in the worst case. Driving politics that is not fact based but interest based. Increasing division because hate sells. Against everything and not for anything, not interested in a solution for the people they are supposed to represent.
Whether it's religion successfully convincing us that it's normal that we teach children something without evidence before they can decide for themselves. That it's normal that governments invest millions of $ in it either directly or through tax exemptions, all the while it is still used to oppress (e.g. Iran), justify war (e.g. Russia) or simply serve populists and fascists as a tool to separate "us" and "them".
Whether it's money corrupting our institutions and decision makers who are filling the pockets of friends and family while poverty rates and inequality all over the world are increasing. The rich becoming richer and the poor becoming poorer. Living in complete ignorance of the costs of looking away and building a financial and ecological debt our children will have to pay. If they can and regardless if they want it or not.
We are on a crossroads for our future. We have to identify what poisons our society and find a cure. We have to think about how we can work together as 8 billion equals to ensure a sustainable future for our children... without all the bullshit in plain view. Let's talk about the worldview that is needed to unite us against this common threat.
"It doesn't promise an out for an escape. It does not promise a happily ever after that is structurally different from right here, right now. We need tools to mend our trauma. Tools to reconnect with inspiration, why we're here and what it all means and tools to better connect with each other. And if we can do that, then we stand a chance of recapturing our rapture, our bliss, our contentment, our belonging, our passion and the story of who we are, the story of where we are going and the commitment to figure out together what do we do now." - Jamie Wheal
What do we do with the information science gives us? We are all going to die, that's for sure. How do we use the time that we have? There's no evidence that anything awaits afterwards, besides ... nothing. What does that mean for our "purpose of life"? Who gives our life purpose and how?
"It seems very unlikely that 200 trillion trillion stars have been made for us... If our life is all we get to experience, then it's the only thing that matters."
"How can we create lives that are truly worth living given that these lives come to an end? We are all in the business of seeking fulfillment and relief from suffering."
